Entry Level Substitute Job Description for DPS Food and Nutrition Services
Summary of Position:
Performs a variety of kitchen duties as assigned in the preparation and serving of school meals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of a variety of foods in accordance with departmental work production standards.
- Sets up serving lines and serves meal or meal components.
- Accepts money for food and beverages served during the day.
- Cleans and sanitizes, in accordance with approved housekeeping and safety practices for the following: pots/pans/utensils, counters and prep tables, dish room and restroom facilities, tables and chairs in lunchroom and kitchen floors.
- Operates, cleans and sanitizes all kitchen equipment.
- Follows approved housekeeping and safety practices to ensure that safe conditions are maintained in the kitchen, food-serving areas and in dining area.
- Stores food and supplies in accordance with instructions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
- Completion of the orientation class prior to start date.
- Completion of food preparation classes provided by the Department of Food and Nutrition Services encouraged, but not required.
- For advancement to hourly workers complete a six-week probationary period in one kitchen after which an evaluation is completed by Lunchroom Manager. Substitute must score at least average or above on evaluation.
