| Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and also the most skipped meal by children. Children who eat breakfast perform better on standardized achievement tests and have fewer behavior problems in school.
To support the daily education of DPS students Food & Nutrition Services offer a program of Breakfast at No Charge to all schools with a current breakfast program.
If your school does not have a breakfast program and you want to provide your students, "Breakfast at No Charge" please contact the Area Supervisor for your school using our web link to Locate your Food Services Area Supervisor.
Give your children all the tools they need to reach their Peak Performance, encourage them to eat breakfast every day!
Accountability of meals received will be done by the student ID number at the computer or on a roster.
Meals at no charge will be for students only.
Schools select one of the four options described below.
Serving Option 1 Breakfast after first period - Breakfast after first period is served just like your regular lunch service, just served after first period! This is a great serving option because you know that each child will receive a nutritious breakfast.
Serving Option 2 Breakfast in the Classroom - Breakfast in the Classroom is a serving option which breakfast is delivered to each and every classroom. When the student arrives at the classroom he/she takes a nutritious breakfast and eats while the teacher takes attendance and morning announcements are made. Jody Cohn, principal of Munroe Elementary is a big supporter of breakfast in the classroom. This is a great serving option because each and every child will receive a nutritious breakfast.
Serving Option 3 Grab and Go Breakfast - Grab & Go breakfast is a serving style in which your students grab a nutritious breakfast meal as they enter from the main door. The student can then take the meal to their classroom or the cafeteria. This is a good serving option because most of your students will be fed a nutritious breakfast.
Serving Option 4 Traditional Breakfast - The traditional breakfast service is served just like lunch but before school begins. While this serving style may be the easiest way for your school to serve breakfast only 10% of students eat breakfast when served this style due to bus and parents schedules. We all know that more than 10% of our students need breakfast, so Food and Nutrition Services would like to challenge you and your teachers to make an effort to try to serve breakfast in any of the first 3 serving options. |
