Dual Language at McMeen

One of our greatest resources is cultural and linguistic diversity. We have a range of programs devoted to recognizing, supporting, and elevating our diversity!

Dual Language

McMeen offers a 2-way Dual Language program which provides instruction in Spanish and in English. The objective is to produce bilingual, biliterate high academic achievement in both languages.

Dual Language Program Vision Statement

McMeen dual language students will start the journey of bilingual education from ECE to 5th grade  in order to become motivated and culturally aware bilingual and biliterate learners who recognize the value and privilege of bilingual education. Students in dual language will feel empowered to learn about and share their love of the Spanish language and culture with their community. Celebrating the effort it takes to learn in multiple languages.

Language Allocation in the Dual Language Program

Below are the Language Allocation guidelines for language instruction at each grade. Students enrolled in our Dual Language program begin in an ECE classroom with a commitment to Dual Language through fifth grade unless the student is transferring to McMeen from a similar Dual Language program school. (Note, ECE stands for Early Childhood Education and is our 4-year-old program, and K stands for Kindergarten)

Resources to Support Students

We often get asked “how do I support my student at home when I don’t understand the language they are learning in.” Here is a list of resources we have started putting together to help in English, Spanish, and math. Some are language specific resources, while other are content specific (literacy or math).
